After almost two years of restricted international travel, countries worldwide are grappling with shortages in skilled workers, racing to secure the necessary talent. Australia is no different with in-demand skills being spread across IT, project management, operations, education, and of course, health professionals. To keep up, the Australian government announced a number of welcome changes that will make it easier for businesses to secure overseas talent for their businesses.
The most significant announcement made by the Department of Home Affairs (DOHA) was that effective 15 December 2021, fully vaccinated eligible visa holders may enter Australia without a travel exemption. This includes eligible visa holders in Australia seeking to depart and return.
DOHA also announced changes to the Temporary Skill Shortage (Subclass 482) visa, giving current short-term holders who remained in Australia during the pandemic easier access to permanent residency.
For organisations wanting to take advantage of skilled overseas workers, now is the time. There are many visa types that sit within the eligibility list and many options available to help accelerate the visa process.
